ECB’s Lagarde Warns of Persistent Economic Uncertainty Despite Inflation Control
Christine Lagarde, President of the European Central Bank, confirmed the ECB has achieved its price stability target but cautioned that lingering uncertainties cloud the economic outlook. The remarks came during a Danish television interview aired September 20.
While celebrating the 50% reduction in market uncertainty since the Trump-era trade wars, Lagarde emphasized that volatility persists. The ECB maintained borrowing costs unchanged last week following eight consecutive quarter-point reductions this year.
Market analysts now project inflation will stabilize at the bank's 2% target after a modest decline. Lagarde urged financial institutions to maintain discipline around interest rate policies anchored to inflation targets.
